Introductory and Refresher Classes: SKILL BUILDER Programs Caregiver two-hour Zoom classes are offered weekly with each class dedicated to a special topic. Our current topic is Dementia Care. These classes are easy to attend and great for those providing home care, caregivers wanting to learn more to get ready to take an LNA course, and those who are working but feel they could benefit from more training. Attend one class on a topic of your choosing or take all six classes and get a full program certificate! The topic changes every month. PCA CLASSES Personal Care Assistant classes cover the core information offered in the NA program without the extensive formal skills practice needed for state testing. It is a wonderful program for students new to personal caregiving, and helps those who become PCAs before enrolling in the additional skill modules required for LNA preparation. PCA classes have varied schedules and are offered on-line modules and as on-ground classes. They are typically composed of approximately 20 on-line sessions plus activities modules, or eight on-ground classes classes lasting three hours each. At the conclusion of the course, a Certificate of Successful Completion is awarded to the student who then is granted a Personal Care Assistant Certificate, which qualifies them to work in a wide range of assisted living or residential care settings.
HSP CLASSES cover a full range of skills required for obtaining a job as a respected professional in hospitality services. HSP POWER Class is completed in one week and is offered in two 1.5 hour segments over Zoom followed by your choice of an in-person skills Jamboree or the at-home IN-A-BOX Jamboree experience over Zoom. This comprehensive class covers:
Basic workplace and job readiness skills
Employment rights, rewards, and commitment training
Food services and server training (module option)
Introduction to personal care (module option)
Conflict resolution and personal interaction training
Time management and accountability readiness skills
Life management and time management skills
Business structure and team structure education
Earning a Hospitality Services Professional (HSP) certification from Vermont Med ED makes sure the employer can be confident the person applying for a critical hospitality position is ready and confident in both their personal and hospitality skill sets and will be professional in every regard and a credit to the organization they work for. Obtaining a HSP certificate from Vermont Med ED builds confidence and gives the student personal skills that will serve them well in any workplace setting and which will last a lifetime. LNA CLASSES Nursing Assistant classes are typically completed in approximately six weeks and prepare the student to become an LNA (Licensed Nursing Assistant) or CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). The program prepares the student to sit for the State of Vermont Licensed Nursing Assistant examination once the student has successfully completed all skill modules required. Other states approve requests for Certified Nursing Assistants in their state once proof of Vermont Licensure is provided. The program covers the full range of skills needed for success in a career as a nursing assistant and gives special preparation to ensure success on the state exam from an instructor who has actually been a state tester and fully understands what is required to be successful on the test. The cost of all materials are included with the course tuition. The course which covers a wide range of topics including:
Work ethics and patient privacy
Communication among the health care team
Assisting with the nursing process
Understanding the client, resident, or patient
Safety for caregivers and those they care for
How to prevent infection
Body mechanics and the proper way to transfer residents or patients
Personal hygiene and grooming
The digestive system and elimination
Rehabilitation and restorative care
Care for those with hearing, speech, or vision problems
Common health problems
Assisting the patient with dementia or mental health problems
Assisting with exercise and activity
Basic emergency care
Respiratory considerations in care and supplemental oxygen dependence

TRAIN THE TRAINER CLASSES teach the secrets of mentorship, and the leadership and training skills that can last a lifetime. The lessons taught empower individuals to help develop coworkers and subordinates through professional training techniques, motivation cues, and positive reinforcement skills. Conflict resolution and problem solving are also explored in this fun and informative class. Learn the tough lessons that even professional managers are sometimes missing.
